Dr. Bear will help us learn about literacy instruction aligned to the Common Core State Standards. We’ll learn about vocabulary, assessment, RtI, struggling readers and more! 

He comes with a wealth of knowledge and ideas.  Currently he is:

  • co-director of the Deffelmeyer Reading Clinic
  • Professor and coordinator of literacy studies at Iowa State
  • literacy researcher
  • author and co-author of numerous articles, book chapters, and 11 books, including Words Their Way, 4th edition, 2012), Words Their Way with English Learners (2nd edition), Vocabulary Their Way (2010), and Words Their Way with Struggling Readers, 4 – 12 (2011).

Donald is involved in numerous studies that examine literacy development, including studies of the orthographic development in different and second languages, and among struggling readers.
